Winter Time Blues

Winter Time Blues

It's March, bring on the rain and warm weather! Anyone else feel this way. Missouri gave us a little tease of spring two weeks ago when the temperature almost hit 70 degrees, but now we're supposed to be getting six to nine inches of snow! What's up with that?

Well, I guess if we can't bring on spring just yet, we can take the opportunity to wear some winter favorite one more time. Grab your favorite pair of dark wash jeans, an oversized cardi and your fluffiest infinity scarf and step out in style. You'll look trendy, but most importantly, you'll be warm!

What's your favorite go to outfit to beat the winter time blues?

Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday by wanna-be-fashionista featuring black leggings

Well, it's that time of year again, Super Bowl Sunday! Growing up I was always so excited because it was the one day my mom didn't force us to eat our veggies at dinner time and my siblings and I were always allowed to stay up late to see the final outcome of the game.

Being from Indianapolis, I was born and raised a Colts fan (hence why I will still be wearing Colts gear today) however, I would love to see Peyton get another ring. He may be a Bronco, but he will always be a Colt at least to Indianapolis, which is why I'd love to see him win.

Even though I won't be with my family tonight, I will still be with friends that I love dearly as we cheer on the Broncos and Seahawks (and as I scream like a 12 year old girl for Bruno Mars).

Regardless of your plans tonight I hope you all have fun and stay safe!

Much love,

Brittany

Teen Vogue's Fashion University (a very late post)

Hey guys! How are those resolutions going? I personally fell off a little bit once I came back to Columbia (greasy college food was calling my name) but I started Zumba with a good friend yesterday and I'm headed to the gym tonight and Thursday as well. I've even made it a point to prepare lunches a few days in advanced so that I can ensure I won't buy something terrible and overpriced on campus.

But that's not what this post is about. Last year, in October I got the opportunity of a lifetime. Those of you that have been following my blog for quite some time, know that NYC is the city that I have dreamed of for as long as I can remember, and Conde Nast is a company I was dead set on interning/working for.

My good friend Darion (he's a stylist for a boutique downtown, check him out) had been talking about Teen Vogue Fashion University (TVFU) for a few months and I kind of blew him off because I was so sure my sketches and this blog weren't good enough to make the cut.

Despite my doubts, I found myself in Hilton Head, South Carolina trying to submit my portfolio the night it was due at minutes to midnight.

After I pressed submit I kind of forgot about it, school had started and I was focused on getting my GPA up, making money and enjoying my last two years of college.

Well, one day, I woke up in the worst of moods, I was running late for class, my boss was on my case, it was ridiculously hot and I was so frustrated. I decided to come home for lunch and this is what I saw:

I was ECSTATIC. I couldn't believe what I was reading and my friend Darion got accepted as well. I was in complete disbelief.

TVFU took place the weekend of October 18-20. For those of you that don't know it's a weekend where aspiring fashionistas and fashionistos gather together in NYC to participate in workshops taught by designers, business owners and bloggers in the business. This year some of the names included Eddie Borgo, jewelry designer, Amy Astley, Teen Vogue Editor-in-Chief and Thakoon, fashion designer.

As if that wasn't awesome enough, each student got a bag full of swag from all the sponsors that helped make the event possible.

My favorite session was probably the bloggers panel because it was the one I could identify with the most. Creators of Into the Gloss and The Couveteur both shared advice and their journeys on making it in the fashion industry, it's what made me realize that if I kept up with this, made it better and better over time, this blog could be next.

I even got to meet a follower from my personal Tumblr blog! Him and his friends took me all over the city, it was truly amazing and I even met Diddy (on total accident).

Being in New York for the weekend and surrounded by so many like minded individuals made me realize that it truly is a city I would love to be in after graduation. I've definitely been looking at internships there for the summer as well, but it's so difficult when you don't have free housing (and you definitely aren't getting paid).

For now I am doing everything I can to finish up school and apply to internships that will hopefully lead me to the city that I love so much. It was such an amazing weekend and I cannot wait until I can go back again!

Snowed In

Snowed In

Snowed In by wanna-be-fashionista featuring black leggings

So, if you're anything like me (and what seems like the rest of the country) you're experiencing bitter cold weather and you may even be snowed in. I'll admit, the idea of a snow day is always exciting, but that's usually when I'm in school and get an extra 24 hours to work on that assignment I didn't do my best on, not when I'm still on winter break at my parents house and dying to get out! I haven't even been able to hit the gym all week!

Luckily, things are looking up, tomorrow central Indiana's forecast calls for warm and sunny 30 degrees tomorrow, which is 60 whole degrees warmer than today and yesterday, so I guess I'll take it.

The good new is, being snowed in takes the pressure off of looking too nice, but who's to say you can't still chill (or get work done) in style? I don't know about you all, but I've been rocking variations of this look for the past few days, comfy, cute and warm!

But I must say, I'm ready for a little freedom from my house (and bed). School starts in two weeks and I've got to get my mind into school mode again. Every semester is a step closer to real adulthood *shudders* not sure I'm ready, but it's going to come eventually!

I hope you all are staying warm and safe, and those of you starting school this week, good luck, start strong!

Best,

Brittany

Rediscovering Ramen Fashion

It's no secret that from time to time I have had trouble updating this blog, sometimes my fashion blog on tumblr and weight loss blog for the org I am in takes precedence, which really sucks because I love doing what I do on here.

After being accepted to Teen Vogue Fashion University (post coming soon, promise) and attending it, I realized that I was seriously slacking when it came to well, everything. I hatched this idea to completely relaunch this blog, which I wanted to happen on January 1st. However, the reality was (and is) I can't do it alone. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I know plenty of talented people, but none too willing to take on this endeavor with me just yet. A lot of people scoff at the thought of running a blog being hard work, but the truth is, whether you have 1 reader or a million, it is in fact a lot of hard work.

It comes down to consistency and that is what this blog has been lacking, consistent posts from me, the author and for that, I apologize. Every break I get from college my goal is to always generate enough posts so that I at least have something to post once a week. The problem with that is fashion is always changing. Sure, I could make 5 posts over break about trends I've seen while in Indianapolis, but the truth is, that might not be the same in Missouri and fads (like those god awful sneaker wedges that are still ever so slowly on their way out) wouldn't be represented fairly.

The good news is, I'm committed to this, I can actually say, this is a top priority especially as I begin to apply for internships. I want to put my best foot forward and let my style and love for clothes shine through.

With that said, I would like to apologize (yet again) for the changes that will inevitably occur over the next month (at least) with the layout, look and feel of this blog. Yes, it's about the clothes, but a new year calls for a switch up. I'm talking different fonts, better tags so you guys can track what I like most and personal posts, like this one, because of course there will be some of those.

So finally, I close with this: Thank you. Thanks for the emails, the comments, the shares and recommendations you all have made for me, words cannot express how much I appreciate it, I am truly thankful, you all are awesome!

I hope you all are having great starts to your new year and I can't wait to see what it brings for all of us! Should be great!

Much love,

Brittany

Go Colts!

Go Colts!

You all may or may not know this, but I love football! My favorite team (besides Mizzou of course) are the Indianapolis Colts! My boys advanced to the playoffs this season and play their first game today against the Kansas City Cheifs and this lucky girl has tickets!

I want to make sure I was comfy, but warm walking to the stadium and cheering on my team, so I went for a long sleeve shirt and winter vest. It's the perfect fashion forward combo, but will also keep me comfortable and warm.

I opted for riding boots instead of UGGS because mine are a bit cheaper (or a lot cheaper!) so if any fans get a little too crazy, my boots won't suffer because of it. However, with the amount of snow we've gotten here in Indiana, I might go for my Hunter rain boots instead!

What do you like to wear on game day? I'd love to get ideas!

In the meantime, go Colts!

NYE Under $150

NYE

NYE by wanna-be-fashionista featuring long sleeve dresses

Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed your holidays and your New Years Eve! Unfortunately, I was sick during the holidays and didn't have much energy to go out last night, but I did enjoy a night back at my hometown church and watching the ball drop from my parent's big comfy chair.

I'd like to think if I did go out, this is what I would have ended up in. Most girls go for sequins, but I personally think looking sleek in black, hints of gold and pearls will never be a bad idea! Plus, this outfit pictured above is all under $150 and they are all pieces you can wear again (unlike that sequined two piece outfit Miley choose to wear, am I right?).

Anyway, I trust you all had a wonderful night and hopefully a fun day of recovering. I wish you all luck, prosperity and many blessings in the new year. I know it's going to be great!

Stay Beautiful,

Brittany
