Happy New YOU!

Well it's that time of year again, time to come up with your best list of what you will accomplish in the next year, only for those goals to fade three weeks in to 2012.

Why is that? Why is it that we can't even keep promises to ourselves for a full year?

My mom always says "Speak things as though they are" she's always told my siblings and I to speak things into existence, if I want to end up in New York City one day with my own fashion magazine, then I should speak it now. Instead of saying "If I ever make it to New York" she tells us to say "When I make it to New York"

It really helps build confidence within yourself.

Something else my mother always does is write down her goals for the new year, and she calls them goals not resolutions because the word resolution has such a negative stigma now-a-days. So this year I decided to try it, I'm going to tack it onto my bulletin board in my dorm room and read them every day and as I accomplish each one I am going to check it off.

But it is so much more than just writing them down and looking at them every once in a while, you have to believe in them, believe in yourself. If you're religious, pray about them and even if you aren't meditate on them, think about what each one means to you and how you can get each goal done. Every move you make should be a positive one, putting yourself one step closer to your goal, and if it isn't, it should at least be a learning experience in which you can grow from.

So here's my list:

  • Shoot for a 4.0 semester! You can do it!
  • Get healthy/lose weight (and love myself through out the entire process)
  • Find a kick ass place to live next year with amazing roommates
  • Love myself <3
  • Be happy (:
  • Find a job in CoMo that I ADORE!
  • Truly cherish every relationship I have
Now you know mine, what's yours? Join me, write down your goals for 2012, go into the year with a positive outlook on life, yes January 1st is just another day, but it could be the day that your life changes for the better. Don't take it for granted!

Happy New Year!

Tipping the Scales

So it is no secret that in the fashion world, looks tend to matter. I've known this from day one, but still people feel the need to remind me of it.

I'm not sure if any of you have heard, but there is a new MTV show called Chelsea Settles. MTV cameras follow around a young woman named Chelsea who is obese and trying to make it as a fashion stylist in LA. However no one takes her too seriously because of her weight. Now I don't watch this show religiously or anything, but catching it from time to time made me realize that I need to make some changes: my weight.

Growing up, I never liked the way I looked, at all. I hated my hair (natural), my skin color and especially my weight. I've done a lot of growing up since then and I have come to love myself, but I still know I need a lot of work, there is always room for improvement.

I've been talking about getting healthier ever since I entered high school and it has been a crazy roller coaster ride ever since. It was a lot easier the first few years because I played volleyball for the school and we trained year round, therefore, I had someone forcing me to watch what I ate and work out, and even though I wasn't the smallest girl on the team (I was actually probably the biggest) I was okay with that weight, at least I would be now.

I'm through playing games though, I have nothing better to do over break, but drive myself to the gym so I might as well start a routine and continue it when I get back to school. This weight is coming off and this time, it's for good.

I'll post updates and what not, mainly ones that have to do with the cute new clothes I'll be able to fit into and things like that, wish me luck!
